Accommodations in Tulum are extremely varied, from budget hostels and small family-run hotels in Tulum Pueblo (town) to unique eco-boutique hotels and cabañas and upscale resorts along the beach.
Hotels in town are less expensive, a plus for the budget traveller, and you’ll be close to bars, restaurants and shops. The beach is a few kilometers from town. Taxi’s are plentiful and there’s a good cycle path.
Hotels on the beach are more expensive but you can still find great deals. The Tulum “hotel zone” stretches from just south of the Tulum Mayan ruins to just north of the entrance to the Sian Ka’an Biosphere with a few hotels and all-inclusive resorts scattered north of the Tulum ruins.
All hotels on the beach use alternate power sources, no electric power lines are permitted in the area.
